EPPS Prof Named to 2 National Academy of Sciences Panels
Dr. Alex Piquero, Ashbel Smith Professor of Criminology in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at UT Dallas, recently was selected to serve on two National Academy of Sciences (NAS) expert panels.
The panel on Modernizing the Nation's Crime Statistics aims to assess and make recommendations for the development of a modern set of crime measures in the U.S. and the best means for obtaining them. The 30-month study is sponsored by the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the FBI.
The panel on A Prioritized Plan to Implement a Developmental Approach in Juvenile Justice Reform is tasked with identifying, assessing and prioritizing strategies and policies to effectively reform the juvenile justice system. The nine-month study is sponsored by The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Piquero also was a member of the 2010 NAS Committee on Assessing the Research Program of the National Institute of Justice.
