UT Dallas Salutes Our Veterans
Are you a UT Dallas student and a veteran of the U.S. armed forces? Make plans to attend a special MRE luncheon on Wednesday, October 2, where you will receive information on everything from academic advising catered to veterans’ needs to career planning focused on life after military. The two-hour event, which starts at noon, will be held in the third floor atrium of Green Hall.
Called “Meet, Relax, Eat” in homage to the term “Meal, Ready-to-Eat,” the MRE event will also feature light snacks and a speech by veteran and EPPS alumnus John McCaskill.
Dr. McCaskill, who is UT Dallas Director of Academic Assessment, says events such as “Meet, Relax, Eat” are critical to the welfare of veterans on campus.
“These events are important to help build a sense of community for veterans on campus,” McCaskill said. “Many veterans may be nontraditional students who may not have the opportunity to be exposed to student life activities or may need additional encouragement to join in.
“By building a sense of community for veterans, these events can provide the opportunity and encouragement for them to more fully engage in student life and come to a better understanding of the university community as a whole.”
Sponsored by the EPPS and BBS Advising Centers, the MRE event will include information on the following:
- Veteran Services Center
- EPPS Advising
- UT Dallas Success Center
- UT Dallas Career Center
- UT Dallas Counseling Center
- Center for Brain Health’s research into traumatic brain injury
