Explore the WOW with Spring Break Externships
Registration is now open for the Career Center's new "Explore the WOW!" job shadowing program. The program is designed to help students explore the "World of Work" through Spring Break externships from March 10 to March 14.
"Explore the WOW" is open to all undergraduates, but the Career Center has partnered with the EPPS Advisory Council to provide a few special opportunities to EPPS students. Students will be able to experience externships with advisory council members from cosmetics company Mary Kay and international law firm Jones Day.
Social science majors can also apply to shadow professionals in fields ranging from local government to criminal justice, including employees at:
- Assurnet Insurance/Richardson City Council
- City of McKinney
- City of Plano
- Dallas Can Academies
- Dallas Department of Criminal Justice
- Dallas Heritage Village
"Participants can use this opportunity to meet networking contacts, get hands on experience, and to confirm if their chosen field is the right fit for them," Career Programs Coordinator Jill Reilly said. "It's a great way to get a feel for what a job might really be like without committing to a semester long internship or a full time job."
The program can also open the door to future opportunities, as students have been offered internships after completing their externships in the past.
The registration deadline is Friday, January 31, and positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, visit www.utdallas.edu/career/externships. Students must use their CometCareers accounts to sign up. Interested students should download the interest form at www.utdallas.edu/career/docs/forms/WOW-student-form.
