Internship EXPO Slated for March 6
Students will have the opportunity to network with social science professionals and discover summer internships through the Social Science Internship EXPO on Thursday, March 6. The event, scheduled from 2 pm to 4 pm in Galaxy Room C (SU 2.602), will mark the second time the Career Center and the Sociology Club have hosted an Internship EXPO specifically for social science majors featuring attendees from a variety of local businesses and government agencies.
Dr. Nicholas Vargas, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at UT Dallas, expects the event to provide students with valuable experience and opportunities that will guide their future success.
"We expect that the event will provide our students with opportunities for rewarding summer positions where they can utilize and build upon the skills that they are learning in their majors," Dr. Vargas said. "These internships allow students to gain exposure to real-world issues, and they can help to ease the transition from being a student to entering the workforce."
The current list of attendees to the Social Science Internship EXPO is as follows:
- Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson's Office
- Hope's Door
- CitySquare AmeriCorps
- Human Rights Initiative of North Texas
- Workers Defense Project
- International Rescue Committee
- U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)
- Volunteer Center of North Texas
- Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- The Elisa Project
- Heart House Dallas
- George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum
Interested students should RSVP by sending an email to Nicholas Vargas (Nicholas.Vargas@utdallas.edu). Students must also bring their Comet Card to the event. Professional dress is highly recommended.
