Leading Researcher Gives Short Course

Robert Andersen, Senator William McMaster Chair in Political Sociology at McMaster University, will deliver the EPPS Spring 2007 Short Course in Research Methodology.  This semester’s Short Course features “Generalized Additive Models with R.”  The course is open to interested students and faculty in EPPS and other Schools at UTD.  It will take place in the School’s Seminar Room in Green Hall 3.606 on Thursday, March 15 and Friday, March 16, starting at 10:00 a.m. with lunch provided to participants each day.

Dr. Andersen teaches research methodology courses at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Spring School in Quantitative Methods at Oxford University, the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Summer School at the University of Michigan, and the Summer School in Research Methods at York University in Toronto.  He is a statistical consultant to the Council of Ministers of Education Canada.  His research and teaching interests include applied statistics, electoral behavior, social stratification, the sociology of work, and survey methodology.

Robert Andersen is a recent recipient of the Premier’s Research Excellence Award.  The Award is given by the Government of Ontario to best researchers to build teams of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and research associates.  In 2007, he became a Visiting Professor of Sociology at Yale University.
