Public Affairs Student Receives Ashworth Fellowship

Terry Hockenbrough, a student in Public Affairs at UTD, has been awarded the Kenneth H. Ashworth Fellowship for 2007-08.  The award was formally announced at the quarterly meeting of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on April 19 in Austin.  On being informed of the award, Euel Elliott, Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and Douglas Watson, Public Affairs Program Head, in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, noted that the first winner of the fellowship from the University of Texas at Dallas would bring even more recognition to the School.

The Kenneth H. Ashworth Fellowship Program for graduate study in public affairs, public policy, or public administration was established in 1997 by members of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to honor Dr. Ashworth for his service as Commissioner of Higher Education.  A committee, which consists of three members of the Board staff, accept and evaluate applications from institutions and select the recipient of the award.  In choosing the recipient, the committee considers academic ability and promise, career plan, individual qualifications with emphases on leadership and communication skills, and financial factors.  The previous seven fellowship recipients have come from Sam Houston State, Texas Tech, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of Texas at Austin.
