Deciding on GIS

As a volunteer for wildlife conservation projects in India, I can use GIS tools to map the results on a spatial foundation. Consisting of various data points at different complexities, this type of simple representation on a map has always interested me. The power of geography to tell a complex story in a simple representation got me hooked. Geography is interdisciplinary, and studying GIS gives me the knowledge and know how I need to graduate and get straight to working in the real world.

My EPPS Success

My advisor, Nora Hernandez is a wonderful support. Her door is always open and she is an amazing guide. Dr. Anthony Cummings identified my interests and urged me to challenge my knowledge and take up classes to further develop my skill set. The entire GIS faculty is very helpful and approachable. The program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to make an effective contribution to the real world.

Plans for the Future

I plan to use everything I have learned at UT Dallas and work in the same field. GIS has a wide range of applications and I have gained a strong foundation to build on my GIS career.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

This program would develop your proficiency in GIS tools and applications. I urge prospective students to explore all the classes offered and not hesitate to speak with the faculty or advisors to come up with an effective goal.

Other Interests

I love to go birdwatching & hiking.
