Sociology is the study of social groups, organizations, institutions and social change. The growing health care sector provides a perfect avenue for sociology majors.
Additionally, the increasing diversity in the U.S. population has created new job opportunities for sociology majors in the area of market research and survey construction. Sociologists have both a student club and honor society at UTD.
Sociologists work in social agencies, counseling, criminal justice system, human resources, health administration, and marketing/market research.
Graduate school options include a Masters of Applied Sociology at UTD, law school, sociology and social work programs, health administration, criminal justice or public policy programs.
The salary range for undergraduate Sociology majors is $20,000 - $40,000.
M. S. in Applied Sociology
The M.S. in Applied Sociology is designed to prepare students for employment in the nonprofit and public sectors, as well as related for-profit settings, by providing training in applied social research, statistics, and program evaluation; sociological theory as it relates to social problems, social policy, and social institutions; and in substantive fields such as health care, education, criminal justice, mental health, social welfare, youth development, and community development.
The degree program develops skills and competencies which can lead to further study in doctoral programs.
