The University of Texas at Dallas
Dear Student,

I hope this email finds you well, hopefully resting after completing your finals in this year like no other. As we look toward the next academic year, we are seeking your help in guiding our next class of new transfer students at UT Dallas. The Transfer Mentor Program is an opportunity for an academically strong returning student, like you, to ease the transition experience for an incoming transfer student by sharing your story as a new student at UT Dallas.

The goal of the Transfer Mentor Program is to ensure that new transfer students are engaged and feel a sense of belonging at UT Dallas, and we need your experience and leadership to accomplish this goal. Aiming to help new students adjust to campus, the Transfer Mentor Program matches an incoming transfer student with a more advanced transfer student mentor who can provide support, encouragement and helpful advice during that crucial first year on campus. Over the last several years of the program, we've found students benefit from close contact with an experienced peer who has already successfully navigated the transfer process and first year at UT Dallas.

The Transfer Mentor Program is flexible for mentors, as we are aware that you already juggle a wide variety of extracurricular, academic and personal commitments. Some of the benefits of the program include earning service hours, leadership development, enhancing communication skills, Transfer Mentor Program-exclusive events and workshops, and, potentially, a lifelong friendship between you and your mentee.

The commitment to the Transfer Mentor Program includes an academic year commitment to live training sessions at the beginning of each semester, meeting two times a month with your mentee, meeting with staff monthly for additional training, and completing monthly surveys on your experience with your mentee and the program.

To apply to be a part of the 2021-22 cohort of Transfer Mentor Program mentors, please complete and submit the online application.

The application includes a phone interview, two references and the completed online application. The priority application deadline is Tuesday, June 15.

If you would like more information about the program, the Transfer Mentor Program will be hosting an information session at noon, Friday, June 4 via Microsoft Teams.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve your fellow students at UT Dallas.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jessica C. Murphy
Dean of Undergraduate Education
