Dr. Hatfield teaches Latin American literature, translation and translation studies courses.
His translations of Latin American poetry include When Night Is Darkest: Selected Poems by Cuba's Miguel Barnet (José Martí, 2002) and Little Stones at My Window: Selected Poems by Uruguay's Mario Benedetti (Curbstone, 2003). Prof. Hatfield is currently completing a book on José Martí and his influence on concepts of Latin American cultural identity.
Dr. Hatfield received a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the Johns Hopkins University in 2007.
