Assistant Professor of Art History

The School of Arts and Humanities

The School of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of art history, with a preferred emphasis on the period 1400-1800 in Europe, its colonies, or non-Western cultures whose connections to Europe were of major importance.  Specialists in the traditional areas of Northern or Southern European Renaissance, Baroque, and Early Modern Art are encouraged to apply.  Applications from scholars who work across boundaries – cultural, chronological, geographical – are especially welcome.  A Ph.D in the history, criticism or theory of art, evidence of scholarly accomplishment, and university teaching experience are required.

Non-departmental with interdisciplinary programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the School of Arts and Humanities is dedicated to exploring the intellectual and creative connections among the arts and humanities.  The School is home to a major Translation Center, a U.S./Mexico Center, an innovative and highly successful Arts and Technology program, a newly formed Confucius Institute, CISM (Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Museums), FRAME (French/Regional/American Museum Exchange), and Central Track, the UTD Artist Residency program.

The faculty currently includes three art historians (two full professors, one Assistant Professor), all modernists whose work is in areas of non-western art and modernism, the history of museums, 19th-century European art, 20th century architecture, and contemporary art and architectural theory.

Selection process begins November 15, 2007, and continues until position is filled.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Appointment begins September 1, 2008.  Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.  Send letter of application, curriculum vitae, a sample of scholarly writing, and three recent letters of reference to:
