The School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks a Director for the Texas Schools Project (TSP) and Professor of Public Affairs, Public Policy, or Economics. The TSP conducts basic and applied research on education and education policy. TSP also hosts the UTD State of Texas Education Research Center, which serves as a point of access to official state education data for a wide variety of researchers and offers a direct conduit for research results to enter policy discussions. The TSP’s current holdings include individual-level data on enrollment, attendance, test scores, special programs, college attendance and earnings in the Texas labor market obtained under strict confidentiality agreements from local, state, and federal sources.
The project is unique in scale and scope and offers an unprecedented opportunity to advance our understanding of the production of human capital. Researchers affiliated with the project have published research articles and written working papers on such topics as bilingual education, special education, teacher and peer effects on achievement, and minority access to higher education.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in education research and/or educational policy development, either in an academic or professional setting and is expected to contribute directly to the research program. In addition, the candidate must have the skills to manage and lead a complex organization and demonstrated ability to compete effectively for research funding. The Director works directly and indirectly with researchers from several academic disciplines across multiple institutions and supervises the staff of the project, which includes 4 full time professional staff and a number of graduate research assistants and programmers. The Director will be a tenured Associate or Full Professor in the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences at UTD, an interdisciplinary school encompassing criminology, economics, geospatial science, political science, political economy, public affairs, public policy, and sociology. Thus, the activities of the Director will involve a combination of research, teaching, and center leadership.
