Convocation and Welcome Week

Freshman Convocation, a special welcome ceremony filled with fanfare and tradition, marks the beginning of your academic career at UT Dallas.

What is Freshman Convocation?
Freshman Convocation is a unique celebration put on each fall that honors the incoming freshman class.

Beginning with a passing processional of the UT Dallas ceremonial mace, you will be introduced to the University’s mission and alma mater, and welcomed by administrators, campus leaders, faculty and staff.

The ceremony features a keynote speaker who will offer words of wisdom and encouragement for you to consider during your tenure on campus.

Convocation is designed as an opportunity to reflect on the significance of your educational endeavor and the commitment of the University to support you in the pursuit of your goals—and to meet new friends, and have some nighttime fun under the fireworks.

Freshman Convocation begins in the Activity Center then moves out to the festival area in the intramural fields. Families are invited to attend.

Convocation for the class of 2012 will be held on Sunday, August 24.
