Moving In
From moving into your very first apartment to making new friends and attending campus activities, there are resources available to help you transition to life on your own.
Contact Residential Life at 972-883-6391 or at reslife@utdallas.edu.
All freshmen who choose to live on campus are required to live in University Village. In the fall of 2009 a new suite-style 400-bed residence hall is scheduled to open.
Your move-in process will begin in the University Village Phase VIII clubhouse.
Upon arrival, you will sign your lease, pick up your keys and pay your first month’s rent.
You will be given a room inventory checklist. Use this form to thoroughly inspect your apartment and make sure everything is in working order.
Peer Advisors will be onsite and available to help you and your family move into your new home and answer any questions that may arise as you explore the campus.
When Can I Move In?
Freshman move-in will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University Village Phase VIII Residential Life Office.
- August 11 — for students who attend Comet Camp and whose application is received by July 6
- August 16 — general freshman move-in
What Should I Bring?
Stock your apartment with items to make you feel at home, like photos and mementos, wall décor and plants. Your unit will include a refrigerator and a microwave oven.
Other suggested items to bring:
- Furniture, including bed (twin size recommended), nightstand, dresser, couch, dining table
- Kitchen supplies, including pots/pans, plates, utensils, dishes, can opener
- Basic grocery and pantry items
- Cleaning supplies, including dish detergent, toilet cleaner, laundry detergent
- Toiletries
- Towels/linens
- Shower curtain/liner
- Toilet paper
- Alarm clock
- Computer or laptop
- Small tool kit
- First aid kit
Room/Unit Condition Form
The room/unit condition form should be used to document any damages you observe prior to move-in. The form will be reviewed upon move-out to assess for damages, and you will be responsible for any items not noted on the form.
Rent Payment
Prorated rent is due upon move-in. After move-in, rent is due the first day of each month and may be paid by check, money order or credit card. Rent payments are also accepted online. See the step-by-step instructions for additional information.
Roommate Differences
Roommate and apartment changes are discouraged and are made only when all other avenues have been exhausted, as space permits and with authorization from a Residential Life Coordinator. If roommate differences arise, please contact your Peer Advisor.
Peer Advisors
Peer Advisors are trained student leaders who help facilitate the needs of first-year students. They live alongside freshmen in University Village, and their responsibilities include acting as a sounding board on academic and personal issues, mediating roommate conflicts and facilitating community gatherings and activities.
