Orientation Team Mentors

Miranda Heichelheim

Freshman from Lubbock, Texas
Business

Do you live on campus? If yes, what do you like about living on your own?
Yes, and I like to cook and clean for myself without having to rely on my parents. I also like the freedom of being able to have friends over late. The time I do have with my parents is more precious since I do not see them as often.

List some of the clubs or organizations you are involved in at UT Dallas.
Emerging Leaders Program, Comet Camp planning committee, Orientation Team Mentor.

List some of your hobbies.
Cooking, shopping, watching movies, playing Rock Band, playing with make-up, reading and sleeping.

What is something that people may not know about you?
I can pop my shoulder out of place.

Why did you decide to become an Orientation Team Mentor?
I like the thought of helping new students adjust to UT Dallas. I also knew that while I would have a lot of fun, I would still challenge myself through this experience.

What advice do you have for the freshman class coming to UT Dallas?
It is not always a good idea to room with your best friends. Also, try not to party too much.

What do you wish you did during your freshman year that you didn’t?
Study more and work to my full potential.

What do you like about UT Dallas?
The size of the classes, the general friendliness of people on campus and my apartment.

Why did you decide to attend UT Dallas?
I only applied to one other school and discovered that I did not want to go there. I applied to UT Dallas late and was terrified that I would not get in. Luckily I did!

What has been your favorite/best UT Dallas experience so far?
I have been generally lucky. I have great roommates and my boyfriend is my neighbor. I also feel as if my decisions have resulted in something good. For instance, joining the Emerging Leaders Program led to me to wanting to become an Orientation Team Mentor.

What did you learn about college life that you didn’t know before?
You’re always in a time crunch.

What do you like to do to unwind after class?
Make tea and watch television.
