Student Health Insurance

The Student Health Insurance Office manages the UT Dallas student health insurance plan, provides confidential claims advising services, and serves as an information resource regarding local healthcare providers. If you have any questions, please email stuhealthinsurance@utdallas.edu or call the student health center at 972-883-2747.

Enrollment in The UT Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is required of all international students holding non-immigrant visas and is made available to domestic students who wish to purchase the insurance coverage.

International students are automatically enrolled in the UT SHIP, and a charge for the insurance premium is placed on their tuition and fee bill.  International students who are already covered by a comparable insurance plan that meets or exceeds the UT System requirements may request a waiver from the UT SHIP.  The waiver application will be reviewed and students will be notified as to whether or not their current insurance plan meets the requirements.  If approved, the cost of the UT SHIP will be refunded.  For more information, click the links in the box to the right labeled International Students.

Announcements and Updates

The waiver period for spring 2015 is October 20, 2014 through December 12, 2014. All documents must be in the system no later than 11:59 PM on December 12, 2014.  Only waiver applications submitted through the new electronic waiver system during this period will be considered for a waiver for spring 2015. If you do not submit a waiver or if your waiver submission is not approved, you will be enrolled in the SHIP automatically

Students who have purchased the UT Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will no longer be required to make payment at the time they receive services.  The Student Health Center will start filing insurance claims directly with Blue Cross Blue Shield on behalf of students who are covered by the plan.  Services received at the UT Dallas Student Health Center are 100% covered by the UT SHIP.  Students who have chosen NOT to purchase the UT SHIP will continue to be required to make payment at the time they receive services.
