Insurance for International Students
The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System requires all international students to have approved health insurance and repatriation/evacuation coverage while enrolled at any UT Dallas institution.
This applies to all students who are not US Citizens, lawful US Permanent Residents, Asylees, Refugees or undocumented aliens. This fee is assessed automatically when you enroll for classes and changes each semester.
The SHI Office (SSB 4.700) issues waivers of this fee for students who meet established eligibility criteria to prove that they have comparable coverage to meet the UT System requirement.
Studying AbroadIt is the international student’s responsibility to maintain required health insurance coverage at all times. Failure to maintain comparable coverage once a waiver has been granted is a violation of university policy and could result in a loss of valid immigration status.
If you are scheduled to participate in a UT Dallas study abroad program, you will want to check with the Office of International Education (OIE) regarding university insurance requirements while abroad. If you will not need the UT Dallas Student Health Insurance Plan while abroad, be sure to submit a waiver to the Student Health Center during the designated waiver period.
