Candidate Scoring Criteria

Five men and women each will be selected by an anonymous committee consisting of two (2) professors, staff members, and students each to serve on the royalty court. Each candidate will be scored on:

    • GPA
    • Resume
    • Essay

A final online vote will determine the official King and Queen of UT Dallas for Fall 2009.

Candidate Qualifications

All of the following must be satisfied in order to be a homecoming candidate:

  • The candidate must be certified as a full-time UT Dallas student with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • The candidate must submit all forms and essay by October 19 at 5 p.m., online as well as a picture and UTD ID to Trapper Pace in SU 2.4.
  • The candidate must have one sponsoring organization and may not participate as a nominee for more than one organization.

Attendance is mandatory at all of the following events.

Please plan ahead of time and if you cannot make an event, let Priscilla Wan know of your absence ahead of time.  The court is highly advised to attend other homecoming events.

When attending official homecoming events:

  • Dress is business casual. Men may dress in slacks and a tie and women in a skirt or slacks.
  • Nominees must wear their homecoming royalty sashes while at events.
  • Maintain proper behavior, malicious behavior will not be tolerated and can result in a removal from court.

Voting Information

Homecoming elections will take place online, Monday, Oct. 26-Friday, Oct. 30.

  • Rules:
    • No one person can vote without a valid comet card or student enrolled status
    • No previously and only currently student members may vote
    • Any attempts to coerce or bribe people to vote will not be tolerated.

Campaign Information

Homecoming participants can campaign for their candidate during Homecoming Week, beginning from court announcement. Typically, groups will make signs and posters for all events. Campaigning is always encouraged as long as it abides by all rules.

Forms of Campaigning

  • Shoe polishing cars only with permission of owner
  • Posters or banners at the meeting place of the sponsoring organization
  • Posters placed at group meeting place, buttons, face painting, hats, spirit sticks, cowbells, ribbons, balloons, or t-shirts.
  • Advertisements in the Mercury supporting Homecoming and a team in general but not a specific candidate.
  • Facebook groups (Note: Paid facebook advertisements are not permitted)
  • Anything not mentioned here must be approved by Priscilla Wan otherwise, a nominee risks disqualification from the election.

Complaints

Code of Conduct

Failure to abide by the following rules and regulations by the Homecoming Candidate or his/her sponsoring organization may result in disqualification or referral to the Dean of Students.

  • Candidates are expected to behave in a respectful and courteous manner to their fellow candidates.
  • Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.
  • Harming another candidate or his/her campaign will not be tolerated.
  • Failure to follow campaign guidelines is not allowed.
  • Bribing or coercing others to vote for you is not permitted.
  • Harming, removing, or destroying other candidates’ campaigns and/or materials.
