Door Decorating Contest

The deadlne to register to enter the Door Decorationg Contest has passed.

Please note that only doors will be judged — not offices or foyers. Feel free to decorate more in the spirit of the event, but only your office door will be judged. Individual faculty or staff members may enter their office door and departments may enter their main door to be judged.

All entries will be eligible for the Comet’s Choice Award, voted on by the UT Dallas community. Pictures of decorated doors can be viewed online.

Doors will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Relevance to this year's Homecoming theme, Carnival
  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • UT Dallas spirit

Be sure to include:

  • Name of department (if applicable)
  • 40th Year Anniversary
  • Homecoming 2009

2009 Homecoming Door Decorating Contest Guidelines

  1. Only decorations that are in direct contact with the door and/or its frame will be considered in the judging.
  2. The decoration must consist of only one door (or for larger offices, a set of double doors.) You are welcome and encouraged to decorate the area around your door, but it will not be considered in the judging.
  3. All university policies apply in regards to the content of the material. No vulgar language, threatening messages, or adult themes should be depicted in the decorations.
  4. Please use building safe materials, such as scotch tape. Please do not use powerful glues or paint damaging adhesives with your decorations.
  5. You may not use paint on the door, frame, or door area. Any painting must be done on the surface of the decorations themselves, and must be given ample time to dry before posting them on the door. Door decorating may not begin any sooner than Monday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m. and all decorating must be completed by Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 9 a.m.
  6. Judging will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. and will be conducted during regular business hours.
  7. Voting for the Comet’s Choice Awards ends on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 10 p.m.
  8. All decorations must be taken down by Monday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m.
  9. Winners will be announced at the Homecoming Picnic on Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
  10. The traveling trophies must be returned to the Homecoming Committee to be eligible for participation in future Homecoming competitions.
