HR Learning Sessions

To help managers and administrative staff prepare for upcoming changes related to the hiring process, the Office of Human Resources is offering a series of learning sessions through mid-February. Attendees may choose the sessions and dates that work best for them. There will be space for 45 attendees at each session; no RSVP [Please Reply] is required.

  1. Day One

    December 11 at 2:00 p.m.

    Student Success Center, Eugene McDermott Library, MC 1.608

    Currently in pilot phase, Day One is a concept that will bring consistency and accuracy to the forms and documents gathered post hire and during the onboarding process, such as CAR [Comupter Account Request] and UAAF [University Access Authorization Form] . In this session, HR will also introduce E-Verify as a compliment to the I-9, as well as the process for ensuring that all new hires have the same experience and are ready to work on Day One.

  2. Posting a Position

    December 18 at 2:00 p.m.

    Student Success Center, Eugene McDermott Library, MC 1.608

    A continuation of the Position Review and Request Form (PRR) course, this session will focus on everything that goes into posting and closing a position. HR will also discuss the Recruiting Plan as a tool to ensure job postings attract the right candidates.

  3. Interviewing

    January 22 at 2:00 p.m.

    TI Auditorium, South Engineering and Computer Science, ECSS 2.102

    Not sure what questions to ask during an interview? This session will focus on the types of interviews that can be used to select the right candidate, as well as the dos and don’ts of effective interviewing.

  4. Job Offer

    January 29 at 2:00 p.m.

    Negotiating the offer for a hire is an art and a science. This session will provide an outline of how to create an offer that is fair and competitive. HR will discuss all of the things that should be considered before, during and after extending a job offer.

  5. Position Audit Questionnaire (PAQ) / Job Description

    February 5 at 2:00 p.m.

    TI Auditorium, South Engineering and Computer Science, ECSS 2.102

    The foundation of every salary offer and performance standard is a good position description. In this session, HR will introduce the Position Audit Questionnaire (PAQ) that will help gather information necessary to build a position description.

  6. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA [Fair Labor Standards Act] )

    February 12 at 2:00 p.m.

    Location TBD [To Be Determined]

    The Fair Labor Standards Act can be difficult to understand. This session will address the responsibilities of managers and supervisors in navigating and complying with the federal and state laws that establish wage and hour requirements, compensatory time and overtime pay eligibility. This session is for Managers only.
