Summary:

Function & Scope: To participate directly in patient care. Provides care utilizing auxiliary personnel. Contributes to the administrative functioning of the nursing unit. Responsible for direct and indirect patient care and for administering medications (all routes including intravenous).

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides general nursing service to patients requiring professional nursing care.
  • Administers medications as prescribed by competent medical authority; insures proper patient records are maintained; assists physicians with patient examination.
  • Arranges for adequate supplies and equipment necessary for proper patient care.
  • Involved in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating preventive health education programs for students.
  • Assists in implementation of specific medical clinics. Aid in laboratory general tests and emergency care.

Received: Direct supervision from administrative nursing personnel under the general direction and standing orders of the consulting physician

Skilled use of all equipment normally required for use in student health facility.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Exactness and thoroughness in all phases of work. Office and clinic patient area may require possible evening and/or weekend hours. Conducting clinics and/or workshops in other areas on campus.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
