Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform advanced or highly advanced interpreting work utilizing comprehensive or specialized skills with knowledge of interpreter ethics. To provide interpreting for students or employees with hearing impairments in academic or workplace situations.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs comprehensive interpreting (voice to sign or sign to voice) for hearing impaired individuals in academic or employment settings.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision with latitude for exercise of independent judgment. Periodic review by designated supervisor.
Given: N/A
Education:
Required High school graduation or GED. Depending on the complexity or difficulty of work to be performed, Texas Commission for the Deaf (TCD) Certification Level III, IV, or V.
Preferred: High school graduation or GED, and three years of experience at the TCD Certification Level III.

Working Environment – Usual: Classroom or office conditions. Special: Working conditions may be determined by the situation requiring interpreting and may vary from the usual classroom or office environment.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
