Medical Records Administrator

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide necessary technical and professional skills associated with medical record keeping procedures. Responsible for the safe-guarding, maintenance, and retrieval of all medical data.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Organization and supervision of the staff and functions of the patient records department.
  • Deals personally with clinicians and administrators.
  • Facilitates the flow of charts throughout the Center.
  • Assigns special duties as needed. Oversees the general output of the staff.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Special tasks assigned by Callier Business Manager.

Supervision:

Received: General instruction from the Business Manager.

Given: Direct supervision of the Patient Records Department staff.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree from an approved school for medical record administration with registration by the American Medical Record Association.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Equipment: Use of all standard office machines. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and excellent word processing skills.

Accuracy: Excellent organizational skills. Ability to relate to employees and clinicians.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
