Summary:
Function & Scope: To assist in providing technical and professional skills associated with medical record keeping procedures. Responsible for the safe-guarding, maintenance and retrieval of medical data while maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations. To act as assistant to the Medical Records Administrator in supervising and coordinating the activities of the medical records function at Callier Center Dallas.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide back-up to Medical Records Administrator.
- Assist with and supervise staff.
- Prepare reports.
- Determine appropriate release of medical records.
- Maintain HIPAA logs.
- Audit documents.
- Facilitate the flow of medical charts throughout the center.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision from Medical Records Administrator and Callier Business Manager.
Given: Direct supervision of medical records staff in administrator’s absence.
Education:
Required: High school or equivalent education.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or graduation from an approved school for medical records administration.
Experience:
Required: High school diploma; 5 years related experience; supervisory experience; prior medical record experience, strong proofreading ability; HIPPA training; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred: Understanding of workflow and processing of documentation.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
