Summary:
Function & Scope: Responsible for performing health care functions to prepare patients and to assist Nurse Practitioners and Physician in providing health care to patients. Provide Medical Assistant services at the student health center.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Meet and greet patients and direct them to exam rooms
- Take and record vital signs
- Receive the patient chief complaint
- Perform veni-puncture for ordered lab work
- Perform CLIA waived clinical lab testing as ordered by the provider
- Document pertinent findings in the patient record
- Keep rooms clean and stocked with supplies
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.

Received: Specific supervision by Director Student Health Programs or assigned staff

Education:
Required: High school or equivalent and certificate of completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program.
Preferred: CPR Certification
Experience:
Required: One year experience in an ambulatory/primary care clinic. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and ability to be a team player.
Preferred: More than one year as a Certified Medical assistant in a clinic/outpatient setting is preferred.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
