Summary:
Function & Scope:
To provide support services, office functions and clerical duties for the efficient operation of the Student Health Center front business office. Perform responsibilities and duties necessary for the effective utilization of the Student Health Center by our students as patients. All Patient Care Specialists are responsible for insuring confidentiality of all medical information.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- The Patient Care Specialist must be able to perform all the functions of the Health Center business office, which are separated into three areas: Appointment Secretary, Window Greeter and Check-out Window Secretary.
- Window Greeter - Greet patients at the office window; answer the telephone; schedule patient appointments; enter patient information & appointments into the medical software program
- Appointment Secretary - Make new patient charts & pull medical records for patients coming in for appointments
- Check-out Window Secretary - Collect fees for services indicated & generate receipt; complete University forms for purchases, vouchers, requisitions, travel, etc;
- The Patient Care Specialists rotate to each area every 1-2 weeks and perform the duties specifically for that area when staffing that area of the front business office:
- To perform the essential duties of the position, must be able to bend, stoop and lift boxes of files up to 35 lbs. Must be able to walk documents to various locations on campus.
- All PCS's are responsible for insuring confidentiality of all medical information. Keep all charts face down and out of public view. Keep all monitors out of public view and use privacy screens. Shred all trash with any identifying/medical information. Speak in a low, moderate tone of voice on the phone. Do not disclose confidential information in the presence of others.

Required:
One year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous office experience, preferably in a medical setting. Proficient oral and written communication skills, accurate typing skills and the ability to perform basic arithmetic. Organizational skills and abilities. Consistent accuracy of work. Knowledge of computers and related equipment. Ambulatory Care Clinic experience. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift boxes of files up to 35 lbs. Must be able to walk documents to various locations on campus.
