Summary:

Function & Scope:

 Provides skilled and responsible clerical work by reviewing and explaining the patient billing process. Receives and responds to patient's billing questions and complaints.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responds to patient inquiries to resolve problems or discrepancies.
  • Reviews patient account and verifies accuracy of bill and take appropriate action to resolve discrepancies.
  • Records additions or changes in demographics and makes appropriate corrections as needed. Processes insurance claims to ensure timeliness and accuracy. Mails correspondence to patients, insurance companies, etc. Keeps abreast of billing procedures and policies to explain the reason and nature of certain charges not readily understood by the general public. Refers any unresolved problems to the manager.

High school degree or equivalent.

Required:

Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience with patient billing and insurance processing. Working knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
