Summary:

Function & Scope: The Scholarship Coordinator will be responsible for the awarding & disbursing of scholarships for selected students who are slated to received GSS, Fellowships, or other scholarship awards.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Reviewing, awarding and disbursing scholarships.
  • Advise students regarding current and future scholarship opportunities.
  • Provide professional-level financial counseling to all students; prepare & review forms & reports as required by program action.
  • Interprets and disseminates knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid guidelines.
  • Assists in developing policies & procedures.
  • Supervise 3rd party scholarships: Provide oversight to the third party scholarship program and assistance to the university scholarship committee.
  • Determine necessary updates to Scholarship web page: Oversee the scholarship web page to ensure applications are opened and closed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in gathering and submitting completed scholarship applications to the scholarship committee.
  • Counsel students, answer phone calls & email inquiries; work with scholarship committee serving as non-voting member on the committee.

Received: General Supervision- Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting.

Experience:

Required: 2 - 3 years experience in Financial Aid or Higher Education.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The scholarship coordinator must have the knowledge and skill to upload spreadsheets into PeopleSoft, review, re-award, and cancel awards based on changes in the awardee list. Must be able to understand the business processes pertaining to all scholarship programs and establish item types for new accounts with the corresponding department account numbers.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
