Summary:

Function & Scope: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to performing a variety of duties associated with the coordination, awarding, disbursement and returning of state, federal and institutional financial aid assistance programs.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide information to students regarding financial aid program requirements and procedures.
  • Evaluate documented financial need. Advise parents and students about availability, application processes, rights and responsibilities related to student aid.
  • Receive limited supervision within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures.
  • Supervise employees in administration of programs and/or gathering of information.
  • Accept financial aid applications, forms; review for completeness, accuracy; verify information reported on student applications to determine eligibility for awards; screen applications; review student folders, transcripts, test scores, and process.
  • Interview students seeking financial assistance; perform needs analyses; assist in packaging of awards which includes completion of Federal, State and private scholarship applications.
  • Monitor work-study students as appropriate; check for satisfactory progress for financial aid students.
  • Review and verify as required, information reported on financial aid applications and determine eligibility; verify students' income.
  • Provide loan counseling and debt management tasks for each student requesting a loan; process loans and end correspondence to borrowers informing them of repayment responsibility.
  • Apply financial aid policy to identified students who have exceeded funding limitations; assist in process of financial aid appeals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior in working with confidential information and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General instructions and supervision on major policy matters from financial aid Officer III or Associate Director.

Given: May closely supervise one or more professional and/or clerical staff members.

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Three years previous Financial Aid or Higher Education experience.

Preferred: N/A

Excellent organizational skills; proficient in MS Office products and ability to learn other software programs; detail orientated, accurate with ability to prioritize information in a timely manner; strong communication skills; written, oral, active listening and interpersonal skills; work effectively in team situations; proactive in identifying potential issues; demonstrate computational ability; ability to investigate, analyze and interpret data or information for accuracy and completeness in order to make informed decisions; ability to work on several tasks at one time; ability to make quality decisions based on available information; ability to respond effectively in a variety of situations; ability to improve performance by doing new things; ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, direct and monitor tasks, activities and assignments to effectively complete a project; knowledge of affirmative action and personnel policies; knowledge of different work styles and personality types; understanding of conflict resolution techniques and demonstrate ability to confront employees in a positive manner; understand cross-cultural communication needs and respond accordingly; understanding of UTD's strategic plan and goals and ability to communicate them in a motivational way to staff.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
