Student Development Specialist I

Summary:

Function & Scope: To assist in the planning, supervision and coordination of student life programs and activities. Responsible for understanding and interpreting the needs of students to faculty and administration officials, and for interpreting, formulating, and evaluating institutional rules.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Meets with students and student groups for program development.
  • Provides advisory service to specific student organizations.
  • Participates in related University student activities.
  • Assists with the delivery of outreach services within the departments or schools.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits required reports.
  • Assist with analysis and evaluation of activities and services.
  • Assists with special projects.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in professional conferences and other duties as required.

Supervision:

Received: Specific supervision and evaluation by the assigned supervisor.

Given: General instruction to support staff.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: One year of experience with college students or adolescents in community groups in an advisory, administrative, or educational capacity

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of student development and residential life theory and philosophy. Written and oral communication skills. Computer, and other office equipment.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Typical office environment.; occasional to frequent on-site and off-site meetings. May be required to work evening hours.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
