Summary:

Function & Scope: Reporting to the Director of the Career Center, the Assistant Director/Internship Programs is responsible for the overall administration of the Internship/Cooperative Education Program. The Assistant Director will also assist with the development and implementation of educational programs, services, marketing, strategic planning and daily operations of the Career Center.

The Assistant Director provides guidance and supervision for the Internship Coordinators. The Assistant Director also assists with career expos, on-campus recruiting activity, and builds and maintains relationships with professional organizations that provide networking and marketing opportunities with potential employers.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in identifying, developing and maintaining internship opportunities appropriate for UT Dallas majors.
  • Provides individual advising to undergraduate and graduate students interested in and enrolled in the Internship Program.
  • Maintains database of student referrals, placements and outcomes.
  • Fosters and maintains effective relations with a wide range of corporate, government and non-profit organizations, students and faculty, academic advisors and internship staff in all schools.
  • Delivers training, information sessions, and career specific events.
  • Markets and promotes programs to students, staff, faculty and employers.
  • Works with the UT Dallas International Student Services Office, F1 students, employers and the Industrial Practice Program.
  • Participates in student, parent and faculty orientation sessions as needed.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General Supervision - Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.

Given: Responsible for supervision of two Internship Coordinators.

Education:

Required: Masters degree in business administration, student personnel services, counseling or related field.

Experience:

Required: Minimum of one or more years of related, progressive experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various models for effective internship, cooperative education and other experiential education programs, career development theory, counseling techniques and job search tools and strategies.
  • Presentation, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with information systems technology as it serves the services area.
  • An understanding of recruiting and hiring processes, EEO guidelines, and U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
