Summary:

Function & Scope: The Career Coach position works primarily with students who are about to graduate and are in the process of a job search; providing assistance in the form of assignments and accountability to assist the soon-to-be graduate with the implementation of their career goals. The Career Coach works in conjunction with the Career Counselors and the Coach also delivers seminars, conducts mock interviews, and provides resume/cover letter critiques. The Career Coach provides guidance and supervision for the Resume Editor.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides brief, intensive sessions with students to determine goals and a step-by-step plan to achieve the goals. Refers clients to Career Counselors when appropriate.
  • Supervises and supports the Resume Editor position for the Career Center.
  • Conducts mock interviews and provides performance critiques.
  • Delivers career-related workshops and assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of career-related seminars.
  • Maintains database records for all related activity.
  • Participates in student, parent & faculty information and orientations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General Supervision:  Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.

Given: Supervises and supports Resume Editor position.

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree

Preferred: Master’s degree

Experience:

Required: 4 years professional work experience in career services. Career Coach Certification required, preferably from an accredited program. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; attention to written detail, ability to build rapport with a variety of constituents, and strong customer service skills. Ability to function efficiently in high-volume office to provide services upon demand and to work independently and as a team member.

Preferred: 2 years of additional experience and/or a strong interest in career development.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Effective resume and letter writing, business communication and interviewing skills.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS ( such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions)

Career Coach Certification required.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
