Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide mental health services and programming to a diverse college student population. Primary duties include intake, assessment, psychological testing, individual, relationship and group counseling, crisis intervention, campus outreach and consultation, training and supervision.
To act on behalf of the director in his/her absence. To assist students in resolving personal difficulties and enhancing skills in order to succeed in their academic pursuits, as well as achieve personal and emotional well-being.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide counseling to students through individual, couples and group therapy.
- Provide training and supervision of pre-doctoral interns.
- Contribute to establishment and maintenance of departmental programming, policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and select prospective interns.
- Manage the selection, training and supervision of the practicum students.
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Participate in/provides clinical staff development.
- Coordinate the training at UTD of the APA-accredited internship program.
- Lead the professional development seminar.
- Work with faculty, administration, and staff regarding consultation for campus and student concerns.
- Provide campus outreach on a variety of mental health topics.
- Lead weekly group supervision.

Supervision:
Received: Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.
Given: General instruction and evaluation of intern and practicum students.
Education:
Required: Doctoral degree in behavioral science or related area.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Minimum of three years counseling or related experience. Major coursework in counseling or clinical psychology.
Preferred: Advanced licensure in counseling psychology or other area of behavioral sciences. At least two years experience in campus counseling setting, three or more years desired.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Theory, technique, assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapeutic interventions, presentation and supervision skills.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Texas license or eligibility for a Texas license within one year.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
