Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide advanced psychological skills involving counseling, clinical practice, assessment, and diagnosis with mental health consultation. Responsible for counseling students and other clients to assist in identifying and solving life problems, for clinical diagnosis, and for conducting group and individual therapy.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interviews clients, works with clients in terms of personal problems, -formulates diagnostic interpretations of problems, assists in developing clinical remediation.
  • Monitors counseling support systems, provides individual psychotherapy involving cases of minor to severe stress and maladjustment which may not require confinement.
  • Provides career and marital counseling in cases that involve severe stress.
  • Utilizes advanced skills in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychometric measures.
  • Serves as consultant to other professionals on mental health issues.
  • Maintains accurate records on all activities.
  • Constructs programs and workshops which are designed to meet developmental concerns.
  • Consults with University personnel concerning individual student problems, general developmental issues, and environmental conditions of The University. Supervises graduate students fulfilling practicum or internship requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • .May develop and institute new therapeutic techniques, develops new testing and evaluation tools.
  • May be requested to provide in-service training sessions for other staff members

Supervision:

Received: Review for general effectiveness by the Director of Student Counseling

Given: General supervision of junior level professional counseling staff. Specific supervision of graduate interns.

Education:

Required: Ph.D. degree with major course work in counseling or clinical psychology.

Preferred N/A

Experience:

Required: Minimum of one year of experience as a licensed clinical psychologist.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skilled in most recent types of therapy with ability to assess effectiveness of such therapies.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Evening Work.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
