Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide skills in the field of psychology including counseling, clinical practice, and measurement. Responsible for counseling referred students and other clients with personal, educational, vocational, or related problems; for giving individual or group tests, diagnosing individual problems, and suggesting remedial procedures.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Interviews clients, works with clients in terms of personal problems.
- Formulates diagnostic interpretations of problems, assists in developing clinical remediation.
- Monitors counseling support systems.
- Provides individual psychotherapy in cases involving minor to severe stress and maladjustment which does not require confinement.
- Provides career and marital counseling in cases that involves severe stress.
- Utilizes intermediate skills in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychometric measures.
- Maintains accurate records on all activities.
- Constructs programs and workshops which are designed to meet developmental concerns.
- Supervises graduate students fulfilling practicum or internship requirement.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision and review for effectiveness received from the Director of Student Counseling.
Given: Supervision of graduate interns.
Education:
Required: M.S. degree in counseling or clinical psychology.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Two years of experience as a counselor, or professional psychologist.
Preferred: N/A

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
