Summary:
Function & Scope: Assist with the operation of a comprehensive athletic training program to serve the student athlete. Coordinate all strength, condition and health-related issues pertaining to athletics, and develop a structured strength and conditioning program for all sports.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and execute all student athlete strength and conditioning initiatives.
- Develop relationships and external funding through the medical and fitness communities.
- Administer all program strength and conditioning regimes.
- Assist in the prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation of athlete injuries.
- Designs and implements basic fitness, nutrition, and strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
- May design customized plans to meet individual needs.
- Evaluate physical condition and provide skilled treatment to student athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.
- Administers first aid to injured players such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.
- Oversees the daily management of training room, including ordering and storage of supplies and equipment.
- Supervises safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards.
- Assures compliance with applicable regulations, effective operations, and accuracy of data and security of assets.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General directions from Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, consulting physicians.
Given: General and specific to student assistants.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine or related athletic training degree program. Texas State Athletic Trainer License. CPR license.
Preferred Master’s degree in Sports Medicine or related athletic training degree program and NATA certification.
Experience:
Required: Minimum of three years high school or University athletic training experience.
Preferred: More than five years prior related University-level experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Equipment – Personal computer, whirlpool, muscle stimulator.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Accuracy – Proficiency in all phases of duties performed.
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
