Recreational Sports Specialist I

Summary:

Function & Scope: To assist in the organization and supervision of groups of participants in a variety of recreational and intramural sports programs. Responsible for assisting with the organization and conduct of sports recreation programs, and or assisting with arranging for space, equipment, and appropriate support personnel.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists administrative staff in day-to-day organization, conduct, and operation of intramural contests, recreational programming, and tournament organization.
  • Contacts and trains officials and area supervisors.
  • Obtains and organizes equipment.
  • Assists with publicity.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: Periodic general supervision from supervising staff.

Given: Direct supervision of student assistants and officials.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in physical education or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be able to relate to and communicate with students, faculty, and staff in a university community.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Some office work, but primarily duties will be in field, outdoors, or recreational areas. Hours may vary but will include late afternoon, evening, and weekend duties.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
