Social Science/Humanities Research Associate III

Summary:

Function & Scope: To perform responsible research involving planning, directing, supervising, and participating in a field of social science or humanities. Responsible for gathering and interpreting data and preparing materials for publication in the field of specialization.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists a superior in planning research projects, or personally plans parts of projects,; participates in research in any fields which come within the scope of interest of the job, planning and organizing the study, analyzing and interpreting the results of the research, and directing and participating in the preparation of the results of the research in the form of a publication.
  • Assists in consultation of certain groups of individuals, assisting them with specific problems, preparing materials for them, analyzing problems, and recommending possible solutions; keeps informed on current information, and allied research projects being performed elsewhere; assists with the general administrative duties of a specific area, such as assuming responsibility fo the proper conduct of administrative procedures such as purchasing, accounting, record-keeping, the safekeeping of finished publications and their distribution and sale.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May assist in the selection of personnel for an entire area, interviewing applicants and making recommendations: assists in preparation of answers to inquiries from citizens, public officials, and private organizations covering diverse subjects with the field of specialization.

Supervision:

Received: General from faculty member, administrative officer, or senior Social Science/Humanities Research Associate.

Given: General over Social Science/Humanities subordinates.

Education:

Required: Master’s degree with major course work in the field of assignment.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Two years of relevant research experience.

Preferred: N/A

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Proficiency in all phases of the duties performed. Excellent in office working conditions, some travel for interviewing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with junior associate staff members, supervisors, and the public.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
