Social Science/Humanities Research Associate I

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide assistance in the compilation and preparation of materials for publication. Responsible for gathering data from various sources and for preparing materials for publication in one of the social sciences or humanities.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in research
  • Does general library research and statistical work in compiling material to be used in publications
  • Conducts research by correspondence or personal interviews
  • Conducts research by correspondence or personal interviews for materials unavailable in the library of the University
  • Assists in the preparation of articles for publication.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • To establish and maintain some public contacts in the field of specialization.

Received: Close supervision by faculty member, administrative officer, or senior Social Science/Humanities Research Associate.

Required: Bachelor’s degree with major course work in the field of assignment.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some travel for interviewing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with junior associate staff members, supervisors, and the public.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
