Special Research Associate

Summary:

Function & Scope: Supervises and directs a large research division or several research projects. Responsible for the coordination of all phases of research projects.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Represents research organization in negotiation for research contracts.
  • Supervises the preparation of project proposals.
  • Consults with and assists key members of research staff in solving specific problems encountered by project.
  • Coordinates and directs research.
  • Reviews progress and reports final results of project to the director of the organization.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: Receives limited instructions from Superior as to procedures for coordinating project work with the work of entire research organization.

Given: General instructions to all members of research staff and specific instruction to key members fo the various component projects.

Education:

Required: Ph.D with major course work in the field of assignment and four years of administrative and/or research exp;or Master's degree and eight years of related experience, or a Bachelor's degree and twelve years of related experience.

Required: Four years of administrative and/or research experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of specialized research equipment used in this field. Ability to modify existing equipment or design new equipment as required by the project. Working knowledge of research equipment, computer and other office machines.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Proficiency in all phases of work. Laboratory environment. Occasional work with hazardous equipment or material.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
