Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform entry level professional engineering and scientific research assignments related to a particular field of work. Responsible for evaluation, selection and application of standard engineering or scientific techniques used in routine research.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Makes and records observations and measurements.
- Compiles data.
- Sets up and operates apparatus or equipment.
- Inspects minor fabrication, erection, or assembly for conformances to specifications.
- Analyzes samples.
- Conducts specified phases of research projects.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Collects and organizes information for various reports.
Supervision:
Received: Specific instructions on assignment objectives and possible solutions from project director.
Given: May supervise the work of technicians or research assistants.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work. Very good working conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
