Summary:

Function & Scope:

Responsible for collecting multi-sensor data from the test vehicle for experimental studies; keeping track of the data; backing up the data and organizing. In charge of the transcriptions and re-arrangement of data in data mining processes according to the descriptions given by the researchers/post doc research associates. Acts as first contact person for volunteers and participants in the experiments and is responsible for scheduling and assigning the data collection time-table.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform data collection according to described protocol by researchers and transfer of data to servers/hard disks in an orderly manner.
  • Perform transcriptions on the data according to the descriptions given by researchers after approval of project coordinator.
  • Contact volunteers and participants for data collection and keep track of time-table for data collection.
    Monitor maintenance schedules for the inventory used in research (vehicle, tools, hardware) and report back any failures, break-downs to project coordinator.
  • Keep track of the gasoline and odometer logs and report back to project coordinator.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field.

Required:

One year of experience in data collection tools, software and data management is essential.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Have a good command of data collection tools, sensors and software. Good analytical
thinking, problem solving approach, open to learning new technologies and methods. Able to work with both human subjects and researchers as a team player; able to understand basic technical concepts and requirements/protocols of research projects.

Note: This position is primarily for part-time graduate students whose academic training relates to the type of research performed, or full-time college graduates whose academic training is not sufficient to qualify them as Research Engineering/Scientist Associate.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
