Electronic/Mechanical Technician Supervisor

Summary:
Function & Scope: To supervise the technical employees of a laboratory responsible for the design, calibration, modification, and maintenance of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment both of industrial and commercial manufacture. Responsible for providing administrative direction, motivation, and technical assistance within the administrative unit.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides for the specification, selection and purchasing of components and instruments related to computer and research lab instrumentation.
- Designs computer peripheral and interface systems.
- Consults and advises research administrators as to equipment needs and purchases.
- Directs maintenance operators on computer equipment.
- Provides engineering (computer and audio) services to research department projects.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supervises inventor of materials and equipment.
- Prepares reports.
Supervision:
Received: Work is presented conceptually and cost analysis and projected completion scheduled are reviewed as necessary.
Given: Close supervision of technical personnel.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Five years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of electronic equipment, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skill in metal working, electronic assembly, drafting, electronic instrumentation, trouble shooting and repair.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Proficiency in all phases of duties performed. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards. Ability to interface with manufacturer’s representative in technical areas.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
