Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform highly skilled and technical supervisory work involving the construction, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment relating to a scientific or research activity. Responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers and personally participates in technical work of a highly specialized nature.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Assigns, schedules, plans, and inspects work of subordinates.
- Performs difficult fabrication and maintenance work.
- Diagnoses and corrects equipment trouble.
- Calibrates meters.
- Lays out equipment involving mechanical and electrical problems.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supervises and assumes responsibility for building pre-production, model shop, or prototype units of laboratory developed equipment and makes decisions on minor details and changes required to meet final specifications.
Supervision:
Received: General supervisory review of over-all effectiveness of a particular work group. Specific when an unusual project is involved.
Given: Close supervision of skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Education:
Required: High school graduation.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Four years of experience in the construction and maintenance of equipment or apparatus of the type related to the position.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skilled in the use of laboratory/research equipment, standard shop machines and measuring tools.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Proficiency in all phases of the duties performed. Good working conditions. In some departments, service or scientific hazards may exist.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
