Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform skilled and technical work in the construction, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment relating to scientific/medical research. Responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled student workers in student shops, and personally participating in technical work of a specialized nature.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Designs, plans, lies out, constructs, and inspects work of subordinates in construction or major repair of specialized electrical, theatre or mechanical apparatus.
- Instructs subordinates and students in shop techniques and working procedures.
- Re-winds meter movements.
- Removes, tests, and replaces resistors, condensers, and other meter or instrument parts.
- Orders supplies and equipment needed for work.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs other skilled work as required; i.e., administer contract administration on outside construction projects.
Supervision:
Received: General instructions less specific in nature than those given to Technical Staff Assistant II from Maintenance Engineer or Plant Engineer.
Given: In some instances such as student shop location, supervision, and instructions will be given.
Education:
Required: High school graduation.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Two years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of equipment used in the field of specialization.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skilled in the use of laboratory/research equipment, standard shop machines and measuring tools.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Proficiency in all phases of the duties performed. Good working conditions. In some departments, service or scientific hazards may exist.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
