Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform skilled and technical work in the construction, repair and maintenance of specialized equipment related to scientific research or other related activity. Responsible for performing manual operations in a variety of technical fields including electrical, mechanical, electronics, radio and general mechanics fields. Techniques are routine.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Constructs radio and electronic test equipment, power units and other electrical and mechanical apparatus.
- Participates in design of these units, tests and replaces defective parts.
- In certain departments, employees in this position restore fossil bones and assemble archeological specimens.
- Builds cabinets, shelves, and other fittings for shop, laboratory or museum. Performs related duties as required.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs skilled technical work as required in field of assignments.
- Orders, receives and issues tools.
- Conducts specialized tests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: Specific Supervision - Incumbent performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems and exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.
Given: None
Education:
Required: High school graduation or GED.
Preferred: College-level or vocational school courses in the particular field involved.
Experience:
Required: One to two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and construction of equipment in the related field.
Preferred: More than two years of above experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skill in the use of hand and bench tools and equipment; Computer and other office machines
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Normal shop or laboratory conditions. In some departments, service or scientific hazards may exist.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
