Summary:

Function & Scope: To coordinate, supervise, and direct major research projects in a field of specialization. Responsible for the coordination and supervision of all phases of a research project.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercises technical direction over a research group; plans research activities of the project; supervises and discusses technical phases of experimental work with associates; surveys and studies technical literature; prepares or supervises the preparation of such reports on the results of the work as necessary or desirable; supervises technical personnel.
  • Actively participates in the scientific experiments.
  • Participates in technical conferences and project planning panels.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General review by principal investigator or program chairman.

Given: General and specific supervision over a research team and close supervision on new research technicians.

Education:

Required: PhD degree in the field of assignment.

Preferred N/A

Experience:

Required: Four years of related experience.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to operate and evaluate the performance of equipment most commonly used in the area of special competence.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Accuracy in analyzing experimental data and in interpreting results of experiments obtained by technical personnel under his/her supervision.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
