Summary:
Function & Scope: Provide supervisory and technical skills in leading a team to carry out research projects. Responsible for coordinating procedures and performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with plans.

Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Plans, coordinates and supervises assigned research projects or segments of larger research projects.
- Exercises responsibility for project performance and accountability for progress and personally performs research work.
- Suggests modifications to, or improvements in, the design of research projects.
- May present original ideas for follow-up studies.
- Recommends the utilization of new or revised techniques and procedures to obtain desired results.
- Constructs, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus, equipment and/or tools.
- Assembles and analyzes research data, and assists in the preparation of material for reports or publication

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Received: General Supervision: Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.

Required: Bachelors degree in a field related to research to be conducted.

Experience:
Required: 3 years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. Experience supervising a research project and staff.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough working knowledge of the various types of equipment used in the assigned laboratory. Intermediate computer skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
