Research Technician II

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide technical assistance for various research projects. Responsible for performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with a predetermined course of action.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs higher level of experimental, scientific, research work; coordinates research in accordance with the plans determined by scientific superiors
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment
  • Records and evaluates data obtained for use in scientific papers
  • Collaborates with supervisor and senior research staff in preparation of scientific papers for publication

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collects and organizes information for project reports.

Supervision:

Received: All work is performed in collaboration with or under the direction of a superior who is available for consultation and who reviews and analyzes the work performed.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with the various types of equipment used in the laboratory to which assigned.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Normal laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment and materials or in hazardous environments.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
