Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide routine technical assistance performing assigned duties for various research projects. Responsible for performing specifically assigned laboratory duties in support of a research project.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Conducts experiments and carries out research problems in the University’s School of Natural sciences and Mathematics or The Callier Center.
- Reads literature and consults a superior relative to procedures to be employed in experiments
- Writes up results of work in accordance with the forms and methods requested
- Confers with superiors frequently regarding results obtained and receives suggestions for modification of procedures
- Performs some highly technical laboratory procedures
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Collects and organizes information for project reports.
Supervision:
Received: Specific instructions and advice from supervisor on all new projects and procedures but limited supervision on routine duties.
Given: May instruct Laboratory Helpers.
Education:
Required: High School graduation.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Six months of experience in scientific research work.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the various types of equipment in use in the laboratory to which assigned.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Extreme accuracy in preparing materials and recording data. Normal laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment and materials or in hazardous environments.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
